What I Believe Is Wrong With The Music Industry

Before you hear another indie artists (which is me) ranting about how terrible the music industry is, let me tell you that after fore albums, 8 compilations, and trying everything I can to get notice; I realize a thing or two about the industry. Let me tell you it's not at all pretty.

For anybody that wants to rise up you rather a, need to perform or b, try to get A&R, College Radio or Remix Competitions to get expose. Here's the bad thing about all of them. Let's start with performing. I do EDM music. I live in Garner, NC. How many fans love EDM in Garner let a lone North Carolina. Not enough to get at least 5k followers. I am lucky in the county I live it to even find somebody that even knows who Deadmau5 is. Really?? People don't even recognize the name Deadmau5?? How am I suppose to be notice for my unique and not recyclable music? Well, guess I can give my music to an A&R rep. Oh, those 1% rich idiots that want to promote pop base music that sounds the same year end and year out just about. Some how they make it different enough for you to buy it though. Oh wait. In 2014 worse sells in over 30 years. Never mind on that one. Maybe College Radio will play me. Guess what. It's rather we need CDs (that the industry is trying to get rid of) or Students are gone (are you kidding me)? Besides, who listens to college radio anymore if you have customize radio. Is college radio something people still enjoy?

Forgot, custom radio is not serious about the indies. Pay to be played on Jango and nobody indie on Pandora equals, well, you're dreams not coming true that way. Next, By the way, even if Pandora excepts (somehow some artists are not on a major label), you are lucky to get a buy. Mostly it's a thumbs up and their rates suck. Royalties from streaming are really low. Let's say if it was a penny a play it'll be 1,000 plays is $10, but it's even less then that! Now finally. Remix and Compilation competitions. Guess what? Thousands are submitted. You can make the best one, but with five to ten plays, they won't even look at it. Most played usually gets heard and they may review up to 100, but with a thousand submissions, you get probably a ten second review that doesn't mean anything.

In conclusion, find a nine to five. Unless you live in L.A or NYC, it's sort of a waste of time. If you like me however, you do it for the love of the music and don't care what anybody thinks. Do you agree with this article. Let me know how you feel below.
